Who we are

Hoshio is an educational tutoring pilot operated by Axis (Pty) Ltd, based in South Africa. You can contact us at any time about your data at privacy@hoshio.org.

Who holds the account

The parent or guardian is the account holder for every student using this pilot. The parent registers, consents, and controls the account. Students do not register themselves.

What we collect

From you, the parent

• Your first name and email address
• A record that you agreed to this policy, and when
• Confirmation of your payment — your card details are handled entirely by Stripe; we never see or store them

About your child, entered by you

• Their first name only
• Their school year or level (for example, "IGCSE Year 10")
• The subjects they want help with

Created while your child uses the tutor

• The conversations between your child and the tutor
• Short quiz scores taken before and after using the tutor, to measure progress
• Occasional "how confident do you feel" ratings
• Your responses to a short weekly feedback form (if you opt in)

Why we collect it

Two reasons only: to run the tutoring service for your child, and to understand whether it actually improves their learning so we can make it better. We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share it with anyone outside this pilot except the technical services that make it run (our database provider and payment provider), who process it on our behalf.

Where it's stored

Your data is stored securely in a managed database hosted by Supabase, with access restricted to the pilot operator. Payment information is held by Stripe, not by us.

How long we keep it

We keep your data only for the duration of the pilot. Within 60 days of the pilot ending, we delete it — unless you choose to continue with us and agree to a new arrangement.

Your rights

At any time, you can email us at privacy@hoshio.org to:

• See what data we hold about your family
• Correct anything that's wrong
• Have all your family's data permanently deleted— we'll do this within a few days and confirm when it's done
• Withdraw your consent and stop using the service

You can also request deletion directly from your parent dashboard.

Children's data

Because this service is used by children, we take their privacy seriously. That's why the parent holds the account and consents, why we collect as little as possible, and why we never collect identifying details like surnames, birth dates, or photos. If you have any concern about your child's data, email us and we'll address it directly.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this policy and tell you by email before the change affects you.
